Beach house bedroom update

Happy Friday friends!

We spent the last long weekend at the beach where I managed to make a few styling updates to the bedroom. Much needed I might add.

When we left, we had the canvas covered: Peacock Paver floors, white-washed planked ceilings and the barn door.

I’d painted a “headboard” in Martha Stewart’s “Rainwater” for Home Depot and broke symmetry with pushing the bed to one side.

Well that didn’t last long.

So I busted out my frog tape and level and painted the remainder of the wall and took it up a bit higher too.

Kind of like when you see those custom headboards that expand beyond the bed to also be the back drop for the bedside tables, they’ll be just enough room to frame in a pair on each side.

I’ve always enjoyed that look so that was a bonus fun improvement. Then I took a favorite, favorite custom mirror from my gal pal Lisa and hung it center over the bed for a focal point. Its finish and texture I thought perfect for the beach.

Currently contemplating a justified circle monogram for the center of the mirror, BTS, what do you think? Layer, layer.

Next up some custom designed pillows in two fabrics I’m crazy for right now. Two euros and one bolster.

I’d like to add some sort of dress maker detail to the big euros because I’m really into tricking out my pillows. Hmmm, I’ll chew on that for a few and see what comes to mind.

Now for the bedside tables. Did I mention the room was cozy? 😉 I needed something small yet functional and sturdy enough to hold bedside lamps. I really don’t want to mount lights to the wall, although, not a bad option as they would look aesthetically pleasing and I guess I wouldn’t have to fit them myself. I could easily get in touch with the guys over at myseelectric.com (visit their website here) or someone similar, but I like the idea of some tall stick lamps or blown glass, sort of framing out the look.

Thinking about these…

Or these…

Lastly, a custom skirted slipcover for this mammoth console. You may or may not recall, these were two $98 console tables from JCP that I pushed together.

I will more than likely go with some sort of ticking stripe and do a double trim detail around the bottom.

That leaves us with our IKEA linen panels. I had this crazy, crazy idea to paint big huge letters on them, SAND or something else beachy or positive that you could read if you pulled out the panel and discovered it…then I sobered up. I’m thinking let’s get the table in here, possibly a small chair (a place for folks to throw the pillows on instead of the floor, pretty please) and I think I’ll be happy with them just plain and hanging in all their wall-to-wall linen glory.

Oh, gotta run! My floor guy is back with our stain formula for my new hardwoods upstairs (!!!). We’re experimenting with Minwax’s new color “classic gray” and possibly mixing it with “pickled oak”. Fingers crossed it comes out somewhat in the family of this…

Stay tuned! And I’ve got lots of great pics coming up from the Valentine Home Tour I took last weekend as well.

As always, thanks for enjoying the ride with me!
