A large, two-story Victorian-style house painted in light blue with black shutters and a dark gray shingled roof. It has a front porch with decorative railings and columns, and a landscaped yard with shrubs and trees. A lamppost is near the sidewalk.

Transforming historic spaces into vibrant gathering places

Where old bones become new beginnings

Remembering Reading is a historic nonprofit born from loss, and built on hope. Because beautiful buildings deserve a second act.

I’ve always been incredibly fascinated by and passionate about historic homes and architecture. I was raised knowing the impact of historical preservation on people and communities. Historic properties are built on a foundation of care and expert craftsmanship, a rarity in modern times. I believe every historic property is worth saving. As part of the Remembering Reading Corporation, I’ve been able to fuse my love of real estate and interior design with historical preservation.

Anchors for our community identity, living testaments to craftsmanship, and irreplaceable pieces of shared stories, historic buildings are more than simply four walls and a foundation

Despite months of advocacy to save it, the 1911 Gertrude C. Reading School in Flat Rock, MI was demolished in 2023 for a vacant parking lot. It was in that moment I knew something had to change.

We founded Remembering Reading Corporation to honor the city's past by saving and renovating historic structures and breathing new life into my hometown community.

Our Current Project

The Historic Stoup Littlefield House

We’re transforming this mid-1800s gem into a living history museum and intimate event space. Interactive interiors informed by late 19th-century furnishings, historical details interpreted through a contemporary design lens.

The end result will be an exceptional space where history lives on with purpose: a museum that educates, an event center to nurture and gather, and a project that inspires others.

A labor of love, advocacy, and meticulous craft, we’re giving this building new life and ensuring its future.

Join Us In Preserving What Matters

Historic preservation takes a community.

Whether you’re interested in volunteering your time, sharing our story, or contributing financially, every bit of support helps us advance our mission to save beautiful buildings from senseless destruction and strengthen the places we call home.

As an Interior Designer…

This work is deeply personal for me. I’m a seventh-generation Vreeland, the founding family of my town, daughter of Larry and Cindy (Vreeland) Hehl. My family's legacy lives on through this work.

It’s where my love of design, respect for quality craftsmanship, and commitment to community come together.  As a founder of Remembering Reading, I’m actively involved in every stage of our preservation projects. From research and design decisions to fundraising and community outreach. My background in interior design, bolstered by my real estate expertise, informs every decision we make.

I believe every building deserves a second chance, and I’m committed to ensuring historic integrity and beauty go hand in hand.
